The certification of the Ohio Firefighter II is not required to complete the testing process. However, the SFE may appoint an external authority to manage and evaluate the certification and all other necessary certification requirements. The college does not require the Ohio State Firefighters II Certification Program to be completed, but we prefer to have that certification at the time of appointment. We prefer applicants with a bachelor's degree or higher in the field of fire and rescue services.

To complete the test process, you must have been in our department prior to the test. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree or a higher degree in fire and rescue from a public or private university.


Must be able to stand for 8-10 hours and maintain an efficient pace while lifting up to 40 pounds, climbing ladders, etc. You must be able to speak and read, write, understand and communicate fluently in English.
